Branding

All Primel unit names bear the "die-face-1" () character (Unicode U+2680x) as a common "branding" mark, to distinguish them from the units of any other system. This character may be pronounced "Primel" or "prime" (or even truncated to "pri") when necessary; it may even be left silent in a context where all units are assumed to be Primel units. The "prime" (  ) character (Unicode U+2032x) was previously designated as the branding mark for Primel, but has been deprecated because of the difficulty of distinguishing it from other punctuation, particularly the single quote or apostrophe ( ' ) and the double quote ( " ), particularly when juxtaposed.  The prime character may still be recognized to brand Primel units, for historical reasons, but the die-face-1 character now should be preferred.

Other related metrologies, for instance those documented in the Day-Gravity-Water System spreadsheet, make use of brand marks that are generally proportioned like "emoji" or "dingbat" characters:

The prime character does not fit into this pattern, but the die-face-1 does.

This branding applies to quantitel names, to distinguish their usage within Primel from quantitels for coherent units of other metrologies. It also applies to colloquial names, to characterize them as Primel units distinct from their customary or historical analogs. Further, it also applies to any scalings of any of these units, using Systematic Numeric Nomenclature: Dozenal (SNNz).

There is some latitude on where a branding mark may be placed within a given unit name.  Placing it on the end of the unit, or between a scaling prefix and a base unit name, are acceptable choices. However, this wiki will follow a convention of always placing the branding mark as a prefix at the beginning of every unit, including any scaling of one.
